Calgary poets collaborate to kick off National Poetry Month

To celebrate National Poetry Month, four of Calgary's poetry groups will come together for the Cultural District's First Thursday celebration to present the reading series I Heart Poetry.
In their first collaboration of the year, 17 poets from Flywheel Reading Series, Single Onion, Passion Pitch Poetry and Red Mile Revenge will share their work. The event is hosted by filling Station magazine's Flywheel Reading Series, which has brought poetry, prose, music, lectures and performance to Calgary since 2003.

The event is a place for first-time readers to share the stage with professional authors and for Calgary audiences to see their favourite writers alongside the next generation of literary superstars.
"It's an opportunity for the public to hear more established writers whose works are published, but we also encourage experimental and upcoming writers to read," says Stephanie Davis, Curator of the Flywheel Reading Series.
I Heart Poetry takes place in The New Gallery, with a backdrop of the work Horse & Sparrow by Marilou Lemmens and Richard Ibghy of Vancouver, B.C. The multimedia installation examines linguistic and pictorial representations usually associated with economic discourse and questions the forms and methods historically used to think about macro socio-economic policies.
I Heart Poetry takes place on April 1st at 7:30pm in The New Gallery in Art Central. For more information on this event and for the full First Thursday event listing, visitCalgaryCulture.com/FirstThursdays.
