The 16th annual WordFest runs from October 11-16 and features over 70 writers in more than 60 events across Calgary, Banff and the Bow Valley.

WordFest events are stimulating, fun, dynamic and explore various literary genres. The eclectic range of
events include poetry and spoken word performances, topical panel discussions, publishing industry
workshops, youth and multilingual programming and marquee showcases that feature the biggest and brightest stars of the book scene. Events can also include musical, visual and technological elements.

Annual WordFest favourites are included in the line-up of events this year, including Poetry Bash, Lattes, Love and Laughter and the Evening Showcases. The Evening Showcases, which kick off Wednesday, October 12, include literary headliners Anita Rau Badami, Peter Behrens, Elizabeth Hay, Wayne Johnston and Johanna Skibsrud.

New events such as Alberta (Un)Bound, Persuasion, Word Powered Art and Franklin Family Fun Day! show the breadth of WordFest programming that includes industry events, poetry and diverse multilingual programming.

On October 14 the Festival moves to The Banff Centre for Friday Night in the Club featuring Tanya Davis, Jeramy Dodds, Kaie Kellough, Dany Laferrière and Angela Silver in an annual Festival favourite. On October 15, the Banff Distinguished Author Series presents Guy Vanderhaeghe. This marquee event will also feature the alternative-country singer/songwriter Justin Rutledge.
